Tell us about your books! What do you love to write about?
People laugh but I genuinely love writing just about anything & everything. I’ve been paid to write everything from wedding vows, press releases & eulogies, to grad school papers, websites, emails, blogs & books. I have to admit, books are definitely my favorite. While the books I write for my clients (as a Ghostwriter) cover a wide variety of topics & styles, my personal books usually fit into 2 categories. Children’s books & humorous books for adults. However, I’m in the process of penning my first adult fiction piece, a psychological thriller that I can’t wait to release into the world. It’s extremely dark & twisted, which is what I love to read before bed & in stark contrast to the projects that fill my days.
What inspired you to get started as an author?
It’s funny, last year while I was packing to move from Washington to Montana, I found one of my old journals from when I was about 7. In it, I’d written that when I grew up, I wanted to listen to old people tell stories & turn them into books. So, I guess I’ve always known that I was meant to be a writer. I tried desperately to fit into the corporate mold for 20+ years before I finally realized that what I was doing was fighting my own skills, expertise & passion. So, it wasn’t until I said so-long to my full-time job & started my own businesses that I was able to truly prioritize writing as both my passion & my career.
What are your favorite books to read?
I’m a huge fan of true crime (have read every Ann Rule book at least twice), as well as essay collections, but my real guilty pleasure is reading truly dark, twisted & horrible suspense-filled psychological thrillers. Oh, and ghost stories, I love ghost stories.
For shoppers shopping for their loved ones, tell us who are your book(s) for?
It may sound crazy, but I really do have books for everyone. I love writing children’s books as well as creating workbooks for them to practice their handwriting skills, as well as craft their own stories. I also love writing humorous books for adults that make light of the serious topics & situations we encounter on a daily basis. I’m also a journal addict, so creating guided journals & meditations that fulfill my own desires, has been a lot of fun & has been really popular with a lot of other badass creative women looking for a way to reconnect with themselves in just a few minutes a day.
What’s the message you want to get out to people this Summer?
I remember when I was little, looking forward to the summer because it meant a new reading program at the local library. Why isn’t there something like that for grown-ups?! I say we start our own badass summer reading programs – it doesn’t matter how much you read, or what you read – just that you do! Readers are leaders – it’s science.
