Tell us about your books! What do you love to write about?

I love young adult fiction, especially sci-fi, fantasy, and romance, and I have released one trilogy so far, with a new series’ first book on preorder. It is essentially, The Selection meets The Hunger Games in space.

What inspired you to get started as an author?

I had a story to tell and the time was right, so I gave it a shot and had my reluctant best friend read the beginning of my book. After reading for a few other hopeful authors she knew, and being thoroughly unimpressed, she was shocked that she loved what I had written. We started to meet a couple of nights a month to talk about the book.

We would talk about the last section I’d written and what we could do with the story coming up, and I’d give her the next section to read for our next meeting. We got away from our families and small children and had appetizers at Applebee’s. We loved doing it together.

Then she got cancer. We were in our mid-30s. A year later, she died. I had to shelve that book. It was too painful. But then I decided I needed to write one for her, so when I had a dream one night of one specific scene with a bunch of understood backstory, I woke up the next morning and wrote for thirteen hours straight to get it all out. So, I kept writing and two and a half weeks later, I had book one of my YA fantasy romance trilogy. Two and half weeks after that, I had book two finished. And book three took me a year.

Now, I market my trilogy, dedicated to Terri. This year, I am releasing three more books, and then I need to get the sequels written. But she still inspires me. Terri is the one who thought I could really do it, and I hope she’s proud of me.

What are your favorite books to read?

I love young adult fiction to both read and write. My favorite genres are fantasy, sci-fi, and romance.

For shoppers holiday shopping for their loved ones, tell us who are your book(s) for?

My books are for girls—both teenage and older—who want and need independence, relationships, social status, body confidence, happiness, security, integrity, friendship, and talent, and who find mental health, family, and confidence important. We share the same emotions and deal with hormones, guys, fitting in, size, friends, family, bullies, and work. I hope my stories are relatable and can whisk my readers away from life for a moment of pure pleasure in the fantastical worlds, interesting tech, and swoon-worthy romance of my (sometimes dark) imagination.

What’s the message you want to get out to people this Holiday Season?
This is the year I begin two new series in YA sci-fi/romance and release a YA post-apocalyptic standalone with character, along with a children’s book you will find enchanting. Follow me to journey through the land of story and dream new dreams. I am editing shelved works and writing new adventures, relative to our time and culture.
